About

About Small Calm

An independent guide to mindfulness, meditation and everyday stress, with a few working exercises and plain notes on the evidence.

Most advice about calming down arrives as a promise. This site tries to arrive as a set of parts: a few small exercises you can run right here, and next to each one a short, sourced note on what is known about it and what is not.

What this site is

Small Calm collects plain-language pages on mindfulness, meditation, breathing and everyday stress and anxiety self-help. Five pages carry a working exercise: a paced breathing timer, a 5-4-3-2-1 grounding walkthrough, a body scan, a sleep wind-down checklist and a mindful minutes timer. The reading pages explain the vocabulary, what trials show for anxiety and where the limits and risks sit. One page looks at complementary approaches, including homeopathy, and says plainly where the evidence is weak.

Exercises, not treatment

Every exercise here is a general-purpose activity. None of them is therapy, and none is a test or a diagnosis. They run entirely in your browser, collect nothing and keep no record of what you do. If your distress is strong, lasting or getting in the way of daily life, the page on when self-help is not enough explains how to start looking for professional care.

Independent, and not a service

Small Calm is an independent educational publication. It is not a business, a clinic or a practice. It sells no remedies, supplements, courses or devices, it lists no practitioners, it offers no consultations or personal advice, and it is not affiliated with any company, society, agency or school of practice. If a page ever reads like a promotion, that is a mistake and the editors want to hear about it.

Who writes it

The pages are written and maintained by the Small Calm editors. The editors claim no clinical credentials, personal stories or testing for any page. Where a page states a fact, a number or a finding, it comes from a public source named at the foot of that page, and the evidence notes explain how those sources are chosen, dated and rechecked.

The short version

A small bench of exercises with honest labels, and reading pages that say what the evidence shows. General information only, from editors who offer no services.
